Natural Resources visitor parking to close for leak repairs Friday, May 19

On Friday, May 19, work will begin to replace leaking sealant membrane on levels P-1 and P-2 of the Natural Resources Building (NRB) parking garage, as well as the building's mezzanine, with a more durable product. The sealant replacement will greatly reduce damaging water infiltration into the building and garage. This work is in addition to ongoing work to replace fire sprinkler piping and repair earthquake bracing in the parking garage.

The parking garage work will have an impact on visitor and employee parking, and the mezzanine work will be noisy and impact pedestrian traffic.

NRB Parking Garage Impacts

Crews will close the visitor parking lot, on the P-1 level in the garage, on Friday May 19. The entrance ramp on Washington Street will be closed and all vehicles must leave the lot by close of business May 18.

Employees can park on the F level of the Plaza Garage and visitors can park in the Pro Arts Building lot across 11th Ave., or in any other visitor parking lot on the Capitol Campus. Flaggers will be on site in the mornings to direct traffic.

The south side of the visitor lot is scheduled to re-open in early July. The remainder of the lot is scheduled to open in early August. Some work, however, is weather dependent.

NRB Mezzanine Impacts

Work will also begin May 19 to remove and replace the leaking sealant membrane on the mezzanine of the NRB. The mezzanine work will require concrete demolition to remove the sealant. This will require the use of jackhammers and saws and will be noisy during business hours. Once the sealant is replaced, work crews will resurface the walkway and replace the landscaping.

Work on both project phases will be complete in November 2017. To expedite the timeline and reduce the impact to parkers, pedestrians and employees in the NRB, the contractor will be scheduling two daily shifts of workers, covering six days a week, 16 hours a day.
