April 18 public meeting will give overview of East Plaza Water Infiltration Repair and Landscape Design project

Beginning May 1, the southeast section of the East Plaza will be closed to pedestrian traffic during construction to repair the waterproofing membrane above the Plaza Garage and replace the landscaping in front of the Department of Transportation Building. The work is scheduled to last until December 2019.

This work will stop water from leaking into the Plaza Garage and redesign the East Plaza to better complement the intended landscape design of the East Capitol Campus. It will remove three raised garden beds, landscape vegetation on the northeast side of the Employment Security Building and 23 cherry trees in front of the DOT Building. The trees are in failing health and cannot be transplanted.

On Thursday, April 18, The Department of Enterprise Services will hold a public meeting to present an overview of the project and answer questions. The meeting will be held at

1500 Jefferson St. S.E., Olympia
First Floor Presentation Room

11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visitor parking is available for a $2 an hour fee in the lot at the corner of Maple Park and Jefferson, and the A level of the Plaza Garage at the Maple Park entrance.

Project updates will also be posted to the DES website.
