Building returns to normal after check of unattended bag

Capitol Campus Update

The Legislative Building reopened before noon today after being evacuated and closed for about two hours so that troopers from the State Patrol's bomb squad could inspect a bag that someone left unattended.

The bag, which had been left atop the state seal on a roped-off section in the middle of the building, did not contain anything considered threatening, according to the State Patrol.

As a precaution, the State Patrol decided to investigate since the bag apparently was deliberately left behind in a highly visible area. The State Patrol is in charge of security on the Capitol Campus.
