Campus Veterans Day ceremonies begin Nov. 10 - 11/08/2016

The Department of Enterprise Services has issued permits for three Veterans Day ceremonies to be held on the Capitol Campus this year.

The first event – on Thursday, Nov. 10 – is the International Association of Workforce Professionals' 25th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony. The ceremony begins at noon starting at the World War II Memorial and then proceeds to the Winged Victory Monument, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall and finally to the Korean War Memorial, hearing a speaker at each stop. The color guard from the Inter-Tribal Warriors Society, a Native American focused veterans service organization based in Auburn, will open and close the ceremony.

On Friday, Nov. 11, the first Veterans Day event begins at 8:30 a.m. with a wreath presentation at the Winged Victory Monument, which honors soldiers, sailors and marines from the state who lost their lives in World War I. This event is organized by the Washington Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG).

The final Nov. 11 Veterans Day ceremony – sponsored by the Thurston County Veterans Council – will take place from 11 a.m. to noon in the Capitol Rotunda. The event will include music performed by the Washington State American Legion Band, the singing of the national anthem by the Pope John Paul II High School choir, and cannon and rifle salutes near the north stairs of the Capitol Building.

Parking is free on the Capitol Campus on holidays.

Enterprise Services is the state agency that manages the buildings and grounds of the Capitol Campus.
