Capitol Way, Sid Snyder Avenue crosswalk closed Sept. 22-26

Stoplight at intersection to be shut off during the nighttime construction work

The Capitol Campus crosswalk that goes across Sid Snyder Avenue and the south diagonal on the west side of Capitol Way will be closed for construction from Monday, Sept. 22 through Friday, Sept. 26.

Pedestrians should use the nearby footbridge that goes over Capitol Way and the crosswalk near the Tivoli Fountain, the large water feature on the west Campus, as an alternate route. Enterprise Services will set up temporary signage to help pedestrians navigate their way northbound or southbound along Capitol Way during the crosswalk closure.

The stoplight at the intersection of Capitol Way, Sid Snyder Avenue and 14th Avenue will be non-functional from about 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. during the crosswalk construction. Washington State Patrol will control the intersection during the outage. During the day, steel plates or other protective covers will mark the work area, but no traffic changes are expected.

Pedestrians should not try and cross Capitol Way at Sid Snyder Avenue since there is no crosswalk at the intersection.

The crosswalk closure is part of the underground utility replacement and repair project that has closed Sid Snyder Avenue from the southeast corner of the Legislative Building to Capitol Way since early August.

The project will replace and repair substandard electrical ducts, aged water lines and other utilities. It also includes the planting of 16 new trees along both sides of Sid Snyder, creating a formal corridor to the Legislative Building, as envisioned in the 1920s campus landscape plan designed by the famous Olmsted Brothers firm.
