Crew to pull ivy from campus hillside during January

A six-person crew will pull ivy and other invasive plants from the west Capitol Campus hillsides during most of January.

The crew is with Puget SoundCorps, which is part of the Washington Conservation Corps program administered by state Department of Ecology. The Washington Conservation Corps is affiliated with the federal AmeriCorps program.

The January work builds on a 2013 project to enhance public safety and stabilize a section of the hillside above Heritage Park by removing hazardous trees and a smothering carpet of invasive plants. It is part of a multi-year effort by Enterprise Services to monitor and manage the stability of the west campus hillsides.

The SoundCorps crew will focus on cutting ivy vines growing up nearly 100 trees on hillsides next to the campus. They will also remove the ivy roots at the base of the trees.
