East Plaza Stair tower elevator out of service Feb. 22

The elevator in stair tower #1 on the East Plaza will be shut down from about 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 22 while a contractor investigates the source of water infiltration.

The elevator is one of several that connect the underground Plaza Garage to state office buildings on the East Capitol Campus.

The work on Saturday is being done to prepare for a project that begins this summer that will repair stair towers #1 and #8, both on the southern portion of the East Plaza.

Water is entering the stair towers causing steel to rust, concrete to spall and crack and damaging the elevators.
