Feb. 6 event to bring armed participants to campus

The Department of Enterprise Services has reserved space for a Saturday, Feb. 6 event near the Legislative Building at which participants may be openly carrying firearms, as is allowed under state law.

On their Facebook page, the organizers say the purpose of event is to "stand in prayer and solitude for the loss of" the member of the armed occupation at a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon who was killed by Oregon State Police troopers.

The rally will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the flag circle, the area between the Legislative Building and Temple of Justice. See campus map.

The event organizers estimate that up to 200 people will attend.

As with many campus events, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) will have troopers on duty during the rally.

WSP advises anyone who perceives a threat on the Capitol grounds at any time to call 9-1-1.
