Governor's Inaugural Ball to be held Jan. 11

The Governor's Inaugural Ball will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, from 7 to 11:30 p.m. in the Legislative Building, Flag Circle and Temple of Justice on the historic state Capitol Campus in Olympia.

The Ball is hosted by the Inaugural Ball Committee, a non-partisan, non-profit organization made up of citizen volunteers from the greater Olympia area. The committee is not part of state government nor is the event funded by taxpayer dollars.

The main entrance to the Ball will be located at the Flag Circle. Tickets are required for entry into the event.

Legislative Building access to be limited during Ball

State employees who work in the Legislative Building will be able to access their office during the event. Access into the event's amenities and functions will not be granted without an event ticket. Entry will be managed through the southeast sliding door and the south portico. State employees will be required to have their credentials and office work location validated before being granted entry.

Limited parking for the event

Since event parking is limited on the Capitol Campus, Intercity Transit will operate a revised Dash shuttle bus from 6 p.m. to midnight. The free shuttle route will operate between the Olympia Farmers Market and the campus, with a stop by the Legislative Building and serve the east campus parking areas as well. It will run every 12-15 minutes. Attendees are encouraged to park at the Market, located at 701 Capitol Way N., or any parking area along the route and ride the free shuttle to and from the event.

In addition, DES is putting traffic revisions in place for the entire day on Jan. 11. This plan is designed to maintain traffic flow on the campus while accommodating the high volume of participants coming to the Ball.

Parking and access for attendees with disabilities

The city of Olympia allows those who hold valid, properly displayed disabled parking permits (placards, license plates and tabs) to park for free at any metered space with no time limitations. If you are using a placard, please make sure it is displayed from your rearview mirror or in full view on your dashboard. ADA parking on the Capitol Campus is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The main venue entrance to the Ball (i.e., at the Flag circle) is accessible to participants with disabilities. To gain entry to the buildings, ADA attendees will need to exit the Ball's main venue entrance and use the accessible entrances for either the Legislative Building or the Temple of Justice. The Inaugural Ball Committee will have a designated person to assist ADA participants.

Event impacts to state employee parking

The Flag Circle parking area located between the north side of the Legislative Building and the Temple of Justice will be closed starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6. The south diagonal on the west campus will be closed to public parking on Monday, Jan. 9 and Tuesday, Jan. 10. In addition, the visitor parking stalls on the west side of the General Administration Building will be closed starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10. The parking stalls will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 12.
