Capitol Campus Update

The state of Washington on May 4 will honor all law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty and recognize those who have given service beyond the call of duty at a ceremony on the Capitol Campus.

The Law Enforcement Medal of Honor and Peace Officers Memorial ceremony, scheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., is expected to draw up to 500 people to the campus. This will result in some minor impacts to tenants and visitors.

The Law Enforcement Memorial, where the event will be held, is located north of the Temple of Justice, overlooking Capitol Lake.

The event will have the following impacts:

  • The 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. closure of Cherry Lane and 11th Avenue, from just north of the Winged Victory Memorial Circle to the intersection with Columbia Street near the General Administration Building.
  • A slight modification of the Dash shuttle route through the west campus from about 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The closure of the North Capitol Campus/Heritage Park hillside walking trail during the ceremony.
  • The all-day closure of the Water Street entrance/exit to the Governor’s Mansion parking lot. State employees who park there should use the south entrance near the Flag Circle.

There will be a 21-gun salute during the ceremony. Troopers will practice the salute behind the General Administration Building in the morning.

Enterprise Services manages public events and activities on the campus.
