No heat, hot water in campus buildings on Dec. 21

Most Capitol Campus buildings will be without heat or hot water from about 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21 while the Department of Enterprise Services (DES) repairs a leak in the underground steam system.

The affected buildings include:

  • Legislative
  • Temple of Justice
  • John A. Cherberg
  • John L. O'Brien
  • Irv Newhouse
  • Joel M. Pritchard
  • Insurance
  • General Administration
  • Employment Security
  • Highways-Licenses
  • Office Building 2
  • Archives

DES staff recently discovered a steam leak in the utility tunnel near the Cherberg Building.

The leak must be repaired quickly to avoid damage to the system. Repairing the leak requires an outage of the entire steam system.

The campus powerhouse, the building with the tall smokestack next to Capitol Lake, burns natural gas to produce steam for heating and hot water in most campus buildings.
