NRB north parking garage entrance closed Dec. 10-11

The north entrance to the Natural Resources Building parking garage from 11th Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic Dec. 10-11 for cleaning and maintenance of exterior artwork.

A sculptural fabrication company will be on-site to clean and repair "Sea to Sky," the artwork above the north entrance of the garage. The company will also inspect the attachment system of the work to the structure, to ensure seismic safety.

The artwork is by Native American artist Susan Point. It consists of a series of stainless steel boxes with laser-cut imagery in the form of traditional Native American Nisqually basketry. Behind the cut surface, colored Plexiglas® is mounted flush to the openings and back-lit from within by florescent lighting.

Sea to Sky was purchased in cooperation with the Washington State Arts Commission's Art in Public Places program at a cost of $50,000. It was installed in 1992.
