Plaza Garage stair towers closed for repairs beginning Sept. 9

Work begins Sept. 9 on an east Capitol Campus project that requires closing stair towers 1 and 8 in the Plaza Garage until June 2015.

Water has been infiltrating the East Plaza causing some structural damage to the parking garage below, including the elevator in stair tower 1.

The project will repair the concrete structure at the southwest parking garage entrance off of Capitol Way, reconstruct stair towers 1 and 8 and replace the elevator in stair tower 1. It will require some weekend and nighttime closures of the southwest parking garage entrance.

During the project, state employees who park in the Plaza Garage should use stair tower 2 — which has an elevator — or 7 to get access to the upper East Plaza.

State employees who park in Plaza Garage stalls that meet requirements of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act will be reassigned to the parking lot on Maple Park Avenue near Capitol Way.

In addition to the stair tower closures, the project will be noisy at times and bring extra truck traffic on East Campus roads.
