Public invited to May 22 meeting on impacts of proposed campus building

OLYMPIA — The Department of Enterprise Services will hold a meeting on May 22 to seek public input on possible impacts resulting from the replacement of two existing structures on the north edge of the Capitol Campus with a new five-story office building.

The next 1063 Block Project public meeting will be held on Thursday, May 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the 1500 Jefferson building in Olympia.

The 2013 Legislature directed Enterprise Services to replace the existing building at 1063 S. Capitol Way and the two-story parking garage on the same block with a 200,000-225,000 square-foot, high-performance office building. The tenants of the new building will be the Washington State Patrol, portions of the Office of Financial Management and several legislative committees.

Enterprise Services will not proceed with demolition of the existing structures at this time.

The department is currently negotiating with the apparent successful design and construction team of Sellen Construction Company of Seattle and ZGF Architects of Portland, with the goal of having a contract in place by July 2014.

The meeting will include a brief presentation about the proposal submitted by the apparent successful team. This will be followed by a discussion of the likely environmental and other impacts resulting from a project of this scale and type.

This meeting will be the first chance for the public to contribute to the state's State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) checklist process. There will be a public comment period following the formal analysis of the project's potential impacts.

Enterprise Services officials and consultants will be on hand to describe the project's current status, take comments and answer questions.
