West campus drilling to cause minor impacts Sept. 22-24

A contractor hired by Enterprise Services will drill into the ground at three locations around the state-owned building at the corner of Capitol Way and 11th Avenue from Monday, Sept. 22 through Wednesday, Sept. 24.

The work will cause some minor impacts to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

Sellen Construction of Seattle will take a soil samples next to the sidewalk along 11th Avenue just outside the entrance to the former children's museum space.

This work will require a partial traffic lane revision there but two-way traffic will remain open. The sidewalk at this location, however, will be closed.

The company will also do drilling work on the same days in the parking strip along Union Avenue blocking off three stalls. The sidewalk and nearby traffic lanes will remain open. The alley between the building and the adjacent parking garage will be closed to traffic for the soil boring.

On Thursday, Sept. 25 and Friday, Sept. 26, a small area will be fenced off at the 11th Avenue location for placement of a small generator that will run for about two days as part of the drilling work. The sidewalk and traffic lanes will remain open.

The drilling work is being done as part of the 1063 Block Replacement Project, which calls for the demolition of existing building at 1063 Capitol Way S. and the adjacent parking garage and the construction of a new state office building on the block.

The new building is currently in the design phase but the funding of the demolition and construction of a new building requires funding from the 2015 Legislature.
