Capitol Campus Update

OLYMPIA – Construction begins Sept. 24 to replace the primary domestic water line inside the Pritchard Building. The project will also replace about 1,100 feet of water line under 15th Avenue and on the east and west sides of the Cherberg Building.

The new water line will replace one installed in 1957 and that has caused problems in recent years.

A contractor will dig a trench in the pavement on 15th Avenue from Water Street to the west end of the Pritchard Building, and in a couple of areas of turf near the Cherberg Building.

The work will be noisy for several days at the beginning of the project when the contractor is breaking up the concrete roadway. Most of the work will be done on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The project will require the closure of several employee parking stalls along 15th Avenue. The Enterprise Services Parking Office will temporarily reassign employees who must park elsewhere during the project.

Access to 15th Avenue will be maintained throughout the project, but the section of the road behind the Cherberg and O'Brien buildings will be fully closed the weekend of Oct. 20.

The heating and hot water will be shut off in the Cherberg, O'Brien and Pritchard buildings for one weekend during the project, tentatively scheduled for Oct. 13-14.

Work inside the Pritchard Building basement is expected to begin about Oct. 11.

The project is scheduled to be complete by the end of October.
