Toppenish School District celebrates new cross-laminated timber modular classrooms

Pilot project brings potential environmental and economic benefits as well as efficiency in construction process

The Toppenish School District is celebrating completion of its first new modular classrooms using an innovative new building product called of cross-laminated timber (CLT) under a pilot project funded by the state Legislature and overseen by the state Department of Enterprise Services.

Night-time work to replace fire retardant begins July 31

Night-time work to replace fire-retardant materials on the support beams on the P-2 level of the Natural Resources Building Garage will begin the evening of July 31 and will continue through Aug. 9. The work will occur Monday through Saturday from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. While employees and visitors should be minimally impacted by the work, please be sure to remove your vehicle from the work area by 6 p.m. View a detailed map of the work schedule.

Capitol Lake to be lowered during work to replace screens between mitigation ponds and main lake

On Monday and Tuesday, July 24 and 25, a contractor hired by the Department of Enterprise Services will replace the screens between Capitol Lake's mitigation ponds and the main lake. The screens are needed to reduce risk of Eurasian Watermilfoil fragments spreading from the ponds into the lake.

To accommodate the work, Enterprise Services will lower the lake level by 2 feet, starting during the high tide the evening of Sunday, July 23.

The agency will return the lake to its normal level after the work is complete.

Tivoli Fountain restoration and modernization project nearing completion

Work to overhaul the Tivoli Fountain's operational systems is nearing the final stretch. When finished, the fountain will use less energy and less water, and require less maintenance.

Enterprise Services expects the popular Capitol Campus attraction to re-open in late summer. Once a final completion date is known, the agency will schedule a re-opening ceremony.


Northbound I-5 construction to cause weekend delays

On the weekends of July 21 and 28, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will rebuild a bridge approach slab and expansion joint on northbound I-5 at Pacific Avenue. The work will require reduced lanes and is expected to cause lengthy traffic backups and delays. Visitors and employees traveling to the Capitol Campus are encouraged to take alternative routes.

When will the work occur?

10 p.m. Friday, July 21 through 5 a.m. Monday, July 24; and 10 p.m. Friday, July 28 through 5 a.m. Monday, July 31.

Capitol Campus sundial to be removed for repairs week of July 17

The sundial between the O'Brien and Cherberg buildings on the west campus will be removed by a contractor hired by Enterprise Services this week.

The sundial will be taken to Seattle for further condition assessment and repair. Work will include:

1063 Project Update

During the week of July 17, crews will be restriping roads surrounding the 1063 Block Replacement Project.

There will be intermittent impacts to traffic on:

  • 11th Avenue
  • Capitol Way
  • Columbia Street
  • Union Avenue

During work throughout the week, flaggers will be in place. Work is weather dependent and subject to change.

Annual festival to impact campus streets July 12 to 16

Capital Lakefair, the 60-year-old event that takes place along the shores of Capitol Lake, begins Wednesday, July 12 and ends Sunday, July 16, with a nighttime fireworks display.

Lakefair requires temporary closures of several campus and city streets. A section of Water Street, next to Heritage Park, is already closed for Lakefair set up.

Work for 1063 project to bring traffic impacts during week of July 10

During the week of July 10, crews will continue sidewalk, paving and landscaping work along the sides of the 1063 Block Replacement Project.

There will be intermittent impacts to traffic on 11th and Union avenues.

During work throughout the week, flaggers will be in place. Work is weather dependent and subject to change.
