Northbound I-5 construction to cause weekend delays

On the weekends of July 21 and 28, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will rebuild a bridge approach slab and expansion joint on northbound I-5 at Pacific Avenue. The work will require reduced lanes and is expected to cause lengthy traffic backups and delays. Visitors and employees traveling to the Capitol Campus are encouraged to take alternative routes.

When will the work occur?

10 p.m. Friday, July 21 through 5 a.m. Monday, July 24; and 10 p.m. Friday, July 28 through 5 a.m. Monday, July 31.

What will drivers see?

Northbound I-5 between Boulevard Road and Pacific Avenue will reduce to two lanes over both weekends.

Traffic impacts

WSDOT expects possible miles-long backups on northbound I-5. If you must drive through the area on I-5, plan to drive through Olympia either before 9 a.m. or after 9 p.m. on both weekends. Please allow plenty of extra time to travel through the work zone or use alternate routes.

Additional information is posted on WSDOT's project webpage.
