Road work to close Deschutes Parkway Aug. 24-28

Road closures along Deschutes Parkway will occur Aug. 24-28 during work that includes replacing expansion joints on both sides of the bridge near Marathon Park. The roadway must be closed during the work for public safety reasons.

  • Traffic - The roadway will be closed to vehicle, bike and pedestrian traffic between 5th Avenue near the Capitol Lake Dam and Lakeridge Drive Southwest from Aug. 24-28, and the area between Lakeridge Drive SW and Interstate 5 will have intermittent traffic closures.
  • Pedestrian walkways - The Capitol Lake walking loop will remain open. Sidewalks along the roadway between 5th Avenue and Lakeridge Drive Southwest will be closed.

About the project

  • Crews will remove and replace expansion joints on both sides of the bridge near Marathon Park.
  • Crews later will clean and seal the driving surface of the bridge with and epoxy.
  • Crews will refresh the paint for existing bike lanes and crosswalks.
  • ADA access to the crosswalk by dam will be updated.
  • DES will perform maintenance on light poles, and fix damage on two poles

Flaggers will be on site to direct vehicle, bike and pedestrian traffic. Accommodations will be made for emergency services to pass through the work zone.

The Department of Enterprise Services contracted with the Washington State Department of Transportation for portions of the work, including expansion joint replacement. DES work like light pole repair will be done in tandem to alleviate the need for additional road closures related to that work later this year.
