Work at GA Building to bring intermittent noise impacts week of Jan. 21

OLYMPIA - There will be intermittent noise impacts as crews remove the portico at the entrance of the General Administration Building the week of Jan. 21. Pedestrian traffic will not be affected.

The portico is being removed by contractor A to B Builders in preparation to move a mural by artist Jean C. Beall from the mothballed GA Building to the Helen Sommers Building across the street.

Other preparation work includes installing temporary supports under the GA Building lobby floor to support the mural’s weight as it is moved, reinforcing the cement block wall that the mural is attached to, and building a steel frame around the mural to protect it during the move. The move will likely take place in late February.
