Campus buildings out of steam on Oct. 12

Most Capitol Campus buildings will be without heat or hot water from about 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 while Enterprise Services makes emergency repairs to one of the two pumps that feed water into the steam boiler at the campus powerhouse, the building with the tall smokestack next to Capitol Lake.

The affected buildings include:

  • Archives
  • Cherberg
  • Employment Security
  • General Administration
  • Highways-Licenses
  • Insurance
  • Legislative
  • Newhouse
  • O'Brien
  • Office Building 2
  • Pritchard
  • Temple of Justice

Enterprise Services Buildings and Grounds staff discovered a problem with the pump late on Thursday, Oct. 9.

The pump is failing and must be repaired quickly to avoid a shutdown of the powerhouse. Repairing the pump requires an outage of the entire steam system.

The powerhouse burns natural gas to produce steam for heating and hot water in most campus buildings.
