Sidewalk & ADA improvements start tomorrow

Preparation work to improve sidewalks as well as ADA access around the Capitol Campus begins tomorrow, July 12.

Initial repairs start on July 16 along:

  • The west side of Washington Street behind the Capitol Court building from the corner of 11th Avenue to the 12th Avenue tunnel.
  • The south side of 11th Avenue and between Washington Street and Jefferson Street.

Work for sidewalk and ADA repairs is scheduled to begin July 26 in the following locations:

  • Crosswalks in the circular drive around the Winged Victory monument.
  • The Sunken Garden, where an accessible walking path will be constructed around and through realigned landscape beds, and modifications will be made to the west entrance.

The reconfigured sunken garden beds will be planted with a combination of plants from the existing beds and new site appropriate perennials.

Impacts and mitigation

  • There will be noise, traffic and pedestrian impacts.
  • On-site direction to the closest alternative ADA access will be provided.
  • There will be intermittent traffic impacts near the Legislative Building through the end of July, including the building's south parking lot and Pleasant Lane.
  • Flaggers will be on site to assist pedestrians and vehicle traffic. Please follow direction from flaggers for your safety.
