In our current, rapidly evolving workplace, effective performance management practices are critical to employee engagement, development, and employee success. Today’s employees expect clear expectations, ongoing non-defensive performance feedback and performance discussions, and supervisory engagement and guidance. As a supervisor, you must be able to use tools that prioritize proactive coaching and counseling, demonstrate empathy, and implement personalized development and performance improvement plans. This interactive, one-day workshop equips you with up-to-date tools, skills, and strategies needed to guide individual and team performance effectively.

Performance Objectives: Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Create a work environment that encourages accountability from employees while maintaining your own accountability as an engaged and supportive supervisor.
  • Collaborate with employees to set clear, specific, and ongoing performance standards, goals, and measurable expectations that support accountability and success.
  • Regularly seek out and understand employees’ perspectives on their performance and use that input to shape development or improvement plans.
  • Provide consistent positive feedback to reinforce growth, along with constructive feedback to guide improvement.
  • Use a collaborative problem-solving approach to address performance challenges and overcome obstacles to achieving results.
  • Navigate difficult performance conversations in a calm and non-defensive manner.
  • Understand the importance of documentation and know how to effectively document feedback and performance-related discussions.
  • Recognize when to shift from a performance improvement approach to a progressive discipline process and know how and when to involve management and Human Resources to support employee success.
