Trauma-Informed Communication in the Workplace
This foundational learning experience introduces public sector employees to trauma-informed communication principles through collaborative training experiences. Participants will learn practical tools for managing workplace conflict and communication while recognizing and addressing trauma responses. The course focuses on grounding, care, and re-centering techniques that help participants respond to stress and trauma reactivity without retraumatizing others or shutting down communication channels. Participants will develop awareness-based communication frameworks that support both healing and workplace productivity, exploring how trauma impacts professional interactions and learning evidence-based approaches for creating psychologically safe work environments.
Performance Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Recognize how trauma impacts communication, trust, and emotional regulation in workplace settings
- Apply the six principles of trauma-informed communication to daily work interactions
- Demonstrate de-escalation techniques when responding to trauma reactivity
- Support colleagues effectively without over-functioning or assuming inappropriate responsibility
Intended Audience: Public sector managers, supervisors, lead workers, and team members who engage in workplace communication and conflict resolution.
