As part of the Legislative Campus Modernization (LCM) Newhouse Building Replacement Project, DES will temporarily close Columbia Street between Sid Snyder Avenue Southwest and 15th Avenue Southwest on Aug. 1.

It will remain closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic until Dec. 1, 2023. Alternate routes will be clearly marked.

During the time of the closure, crews will remove and replace sidewalks and curbs. This stretch of Columbia Street will also be repaved. Regular updates including scheduled work and campus and neighborhood impacts will be included in the LCM Weekly Update.

In addition to work on Columbia Street, crews will demolish the former Visitor Center, and repave the former Visitor Center Parking Lot.

As with any construction site, we are asking individuals to avoid the area around the construction zone if possible.

Locations Impacted: There are no campus buildings in the immediate vicinity of Columbia. This stretch of road runs between the Newhouse Building replacement construction site and the former Visitor Center Parking Lot that is also being excavated and repaved.

When: Aug. 1 - Dec. 1, 2023

Why: Construction work associated with the Newhouse Building Replacement Project, part of Legislative Campus Modernization.
