Final steam leak repairs begin today

Minor campus disruptions can be expected

Work begins this week to complete final repairs to a steam leak that developed in the southwest vault below the Insurance Building. The work will take place in the Insurance Building and the Newhouse Building and will last for two weeks. Visitors to and tenants of the Capitol Campus may experience some minor disruptions including:

  • Steam heat will not be available in the Insurance and Newhouse buildings for two weeks. Power heat and hot water will not be affected.
  • Newhouse Building tenants and visitors may hear moderate work noise in the immediate areas of the basement the week of June 17, and from rooms 102 and 201 the week of June 24 during normal working hours.
  • All parking stalls and the sidewalk on the north curb of Sid Snyder Ave., from the corner of Cherry Lane to the south stairs of the Insurance Building, will be closed June 24-28.

Enterprise Services hired a contractor to repair the leaky steam pipe earlier in the year. Temporary repairs were made in March and permanent repairs began in May. The final repairs will be made during the next two weeks.
