Work on walkways along Medal of Honor and POW-MIA memorials to continue through May

OLYMPIA - Work to replace the walkway that brings visitors to the Medal of Honor and POW-MIA memorials on the West Capitol Campus began today and is expected to continue through May 2017. The project includes new lighting fixtures and resetting of granite sections of the Medal of Honor Obelisk. The new LED lighting will be more energy efficient.

The Medal of Honor memorial is located northeast of the Legislative building, in the center of the west campus drive-around circle. The POW-MIA memorial is located directly east of the Winged Victory Monument on the west campus.

The work on the walkway is part of an ongoing project ore repair or replace numerous Capitol Campus pedestrian pathways that began in December, 2016.

In previous work, the walkways at the southeast corner of the Legislative Building have been replaced.

The next phase of work will include replacing walkways along the four corners at the Old Capitol Building, including ADA ramps.

The overall construction budget is $132,400.
